Easy Weekend

I was quite busy this weekend.  Friday was my off-day, but Saturday was a short run -15 minutes, and Sunday was a bike ride -10k.
I got up Early Saturday and went for my 15 minute jog - I pushed it to 20 minutes because I wanted to run a certain route.  I'm starting to sprint harder for the 1 minute intervals, but I think they get longer this week - so lets see what happens.
My bike ride was challenging. I finally left the safe confines of my secluded, unoccupied, flat road and ventured off to main streets that have bike paths and most importantly, hills!  I did 10k in about 30 minutes, but that included stop light time...to which there was a lot.

Today is my off day, and I'm going to enjoy it.  Tomorrow I get up and hit the pool again for 200 yards, and a run for 20 minutes.

Day 8 - First Two-Sport Day

Today was my first two-sport day.  I got up and went swimming (200m) at 5:30, and came home and did a 15 minute run (2k).  The swim seemed harder than last week's swim, but I believe it was because I'm a bit nervous with all the people in the lane.  I'm starting in the slow lane, but all of the other swimmers are REALLY slow.  Most of them are 70+, so I'm not sure if I should upgrade to the medium lane.  The people training there are really good and I don't want to bother them the same way the 70 year olds are bothering me.

Let me know your thoughts,

Joe

Day 7 - substitute bike day

Yesterday I didn't get out on the bike for my 8k because of the rain.  I was supposed to have an off-day today, but instead I got my biking in at 5:00am this morning.  It felt good.

My goals for this week are as follows:
1.  Get a handle on my diet - Start to think before I eat.  I'm not yet ready to write down everything I eat, but I'll start by stopping to think.  I'm also chewing my food more to see if that helps with the weight loss.  This weekend was a nutrition write-off with the wedding, but I'm good to go now.
2.  Continue with bike confidence - Keep trying to alternate handlebar positions, and get more comfortable on the bike.
3.  Buy a Swimming Pass - On Tuesday, I'll be buying a swimming pass for the next 3 months.  It makes sense especially if I'm swimming 2x a week.

I'll keep you posted.

Days 4 and 5

Yesterday was my first swim day.  I got up at 5:15 to make a 5:30 swim session only to find out I'd gone to the wrong pool.  I headed across town and got to the right place eventually.  My workout called for 200 metres.  2x25  warmup, 4x25 workout, 2x25 cooldown.  I did it all and even threw in some 4x25 flutter board kicks amd another 2x25 cooldown.  My total workout was somewhere in the neighbourhood of 350m.  I was close to giving up on my first lap but in pushed through it and finished.

Today I ran my 15 minutes that I'm supposed to run tomorrow because I've got a family wedding.  Things were a hit slower because of the muscle fatigue from swimming.

Looking forward to an off day tomorrow and some good food and wine.  Sunday is bike day.

Day 2 - Bike Day

Okay so yesterday I got home from work yesterday, so I decided to turn my off day into a Run day.  I wanted to get out and do something - plus I have a wedding on Saturday so I'll need to rejig my workouts this week.  Instead of taking my off day today, I did tomorrow's bike this morning - I was supposed to do 8k, but I ended up clocking in 10k in about 27 minutes.  This was only my 2nd time on the bike, and I've got a nice secluded road with bike lanes that is great for learning to ride.  I am right now practicing using my gears on the right side - however my gears on the left side seem to not be doing anything.  Perhaps I've broken them already, or I'm doing something wrong.

Tomorrow will be my off day, and then I'll do my first Swim on Thursday.  My Friday Off day will be replaced with another run so that I can take Saturday off for the wedding.

All in all - feeling good!

Day 1 - Off Day

Today is Monday, and the first day of my training for the Sprint Triathlon.  Oddly enough - its also my off day every week.

I weighed myself in at 245 lbs this morning.  At this point last year I was at 260 (my heaviest).  I cut the 15 lbs over a year by measuring my food portions.  My wife was doing the 21-Day-Fix, and since I do the cooking, I was forced to measure everything.  I will continue to eat the 21-Day-Fix method until my training ramps up and I notice that I'm getting tired.

Tomorrow is my first swimming day, and I'm not looking forward to it!

Bike bought!

Yesterday I got up at 6 and went for a light jog.

I also bought a bike and accessories for about $1500 CAD all in.  My bike is a Giant Defy 3 with Sora shifters.

I took it out for a spin last night and did about 4k.  It is incredibly smooth but I am not.  I have troubles moving my hands on the bars because I'm so unsteady.  I also get a bit of pain in between my thumb and index finger when I ride up top with my hands around the shifters.  I suppose that this will take some getting used to.  The drivers in my subdivision do not seem to notice bikers at stop signs even tho we have bike lanes.  I've got a straight flat 5k road that is unpopulated just north of my house  so I'll practice there a bit.

So with the jog and bike ride yesterday I've accomplished my 3rd goal to just get out there.  Stay tuned for new goals for next week.
